Can the latest model Airport Express be used as the 'primary' base station?

I am trying to configure an extended network in my home with a new model Airport Express and an old model Airport Express. Can this be done with the new airport express as the 'primary' base station, or do I need an Airport Extreme as the 'primary' base station.

The new AirPort Express can be configured as the main or primary base station....but you need to make sure that your other Express is an "n" wireless version.

Check to locate the Model No on the side of the older Express. You need to see A1264 there.

Models A1084 or A1088 will not work as part of an extended network.
