A single crash may or may not mean anything. For the time being the only thing I can tell you is this: if your computer crashes and is non-responsive, hold the power button for 10 seconds. Release it. Press it again. That will perform a forced shut down and then restart it. Waiting for the battery to drain is almost never necessary.

If you experience another freeze/crash let us know and we'll look further.

I've been having the exact same problem on my mid 2009 MBP 15 2.66. It's happened to me 6 times so far, 3 of which have been the last 24 hours. It's not sleeping but the display wont come back on and the hard drive is spinning and opening and closing does nothing so I have to hard reset and when it reboots it says I shut down because of a problem. I just had my logic board and HDD replaced for the second time last month and my applecare expired the next day so I'm within the 90 days. Any advice on what it is?
