Hi.If you create a book or magazine with iBooks Author can you then put it on Newsstand as well or would it need to be in a different format? Thanks in advance.

Newsstand requires an app, iBA cannot create that.
In theory you could, if you use iBA to generate/export a PDF.

So you don't need an app, you can just send in a PDF to put your things on the Newstand? I had not seen this before. Is there someplace where Apple talks about that? Thanks!
You still need an app - a newsstand-enabled app that contains your content and is configured for subscriptions/in app purchase, badged updates etc. as required.
Apple's iOS Newsstand app is just a special folder that your app/periodical sits inside of to help with newsstand specific features....this keeps them in one central location versus tons of individual periodicals taking up space on spotlight/the homescreen.
If you just want to push out a PDF, you can DIY or there are store channels and that's one of the things iBooks is for.
Thanks guys for taking the time out. So would I be right in thinking that to have a magazine on Newsstand I would need to be registered as a developer with Apple? I don't quite know what you mean by a newsstand-enabled app. sorry to be so obtuse.
I think there are various 3rd parties who will create the app for you. You can presumably find some via Google.
😉
Yes, you'd need to not only pay the annual USD$99 fee, you'd need to either have or develop the necessary skils....it's not what I would call a trivial effort, tho, so be prepared for a steep learning curve.
The term 'app' is a general term for iOS applications, which can take many forms. An app that specifically targets Newsstand on your device would be configured by a dev to tell iOS about itself, etc. so that it works as intended. In general terms, the work to get it into the store is the same as any other app, but again, it won't reside on the homescreen on it's own...it will be found inside Newsstand the app.
