When I start up my mac book pro all I see is a white screen with a globe flashing. Can anybody please help me I can't get past the screen at all. It won't even let me to take a password or anything. Not sure if the operating system is Snow Leopard or mountain lion..... please help........

Now it gives me a lock. I had 1 of my daughters friends come over and look at the computer and now everything's all messed up. What does ithis mean? Please excuse me I'm new to the Mac world. Thank you so much for your help
That means you need to provide the computer's firmware password and press Enter. If you don't know that password, ask the person you got the computer from for it or contact Apple.

I just bought it from the Apple Store. I just spoke to my daughters friend and he can't remember how you spell the password. So now my best bet would be to take it back to the store I got it from? There's no other way around it?
Take it there or phone them and ask; as this information could potentially be used to help thieves break into systems they've stolen, it hopefully won't get posted here.

That's for the same reason you got the lock: A firmware password is set on the computer. Contact Apple and stop expecting to get any further assistance with that specific issue on these boards.
