how do I delete a download which I do not want

I have just got an ipad2 for xmas, I purchased a movie which has taken hours and hours to download, come to watch it, would not let me, I have deleted from my list has it was taking up all my servers space, it now wants to re down load (twice) will not let me delete, , how can I stop the down load.
