Loud static from headphone jack

I have a macbook pro that was purchased in the summer of 2011, ever since then I have not been able to use the ehadphone jack as there is extremely loud static when I plug in some headphones, no matter what kind. Ive never really needed to use the jack but sometimes it would be nice to use. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there any solutions? Thanks

You can try plugging a headphone jack in aand out a few times, maybe the contacts have oxidized. You can also try a pram reset: power off, power back on hold the option, command,P, R(no commas) press these keys before the start chime, hold them till you hear the start chime 2 times, then release. Reboot. If still no joy you might have a bad solder joint, jack, or sound card and might want to bring it in for service, somethings not right. ATB
