Hi,
i'm trying to open up more space on my hard drive by doing a full erase. Available space is about 6GB on a 80GB drive. Running OS X 10.4.11. on a Mac Book Black. Want to install 10.6. SL.
In Disk Utility the Volume Format box is greyed out. It's set as Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
How can i change it?

Erase the drive from the Disk Utility on the computer's original disks or the Mac OS X 10.6 DVD while leaving the volume's format as is.

thanks for the quick reply.
When i switch between the drive and the volume pane, i get the same result. Everything is greyed out. Exc. the erase free space option.
So how do i go about it on the "Mac OS X 10.6 DVD while leaving the volume's format as is."

Restart with the disk in the drive and the C key held down.

How much free space is on the HD, where has all the space gone?
OmniDiskSweeper is likely the easiest/best, and is now free...
