Quartz Composer 4.6 Crash

I installed xcode 4.5.2 today in hopes of getting quartz composer 4.6 running on my macbook pro 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 duo with 4 GB of ram, unfortunatly the efforts were to no avail. I was previously running QC 3.1.2 before that and it is still running fine.

At first QC 4.6 would not open at all and I was geting the following error seen in the attached image. I followed previous posts that instructed to delete com.apple.QuartzComposer.editor.plist and Cahe.db. This allowed me to start accessing the application but not through selecting the template .qtz that are offered when starting a new file such as the second screen shot. I have to open a composition that I have created previously, this leads me to believe that it is not pointing towards the template .qtz at startup.

When I do open a previously made composition QC runs but will again crash when I try to access the patch library. also if I switch the preferences to start with the patch library open the QC will not make it to the the editor screen.

I was trying to get a crash report but the app seems to not be filing crash reports right now for some reason. I'll try to get it to generate one but maybe this is enough to turn on the lights for someone.

I have 4.6 running on two 10.8.2 systems with no problem. Is your profile accurate, are you running 10.7.5?

Have you tried making a new user account on your system and running from there? This will at least narrow it down to a system problem (fails in the new account also) or something in your environment (runs in new account).

Thanks Frank for your help. I am using Lion 10.7.5

In doing this I realized Kineme 3-d needed updated. My test user got an error that Kineme 3-d was crashing QC. After I updated that went away and I started having the same problems as in my primary user account.

When QC 4.6 starts and I click on the blank, screensaver or any other start template I get the info in the attached screenshot. If I open a past composition QC fails when trying and open the patch library see the beggining of an error report below.

I'm not much with crash reports but if this is a system wide problem have you tried re-installing Quartz Composer?

I'd also search to see if 4.6 is compatible with Lion, see is anyone else is having problems. As I wrote I'm using Mountain Lion.

Finally I don;t know if you are aware of it but there is a Quartz Composer mailing list run by Apple at https://lists.apple.com/mailman/listinfo/quartzcomposer-dev

might be worth a shot to post there to see if anyone is knows of a problem.

regards

Had a similar problem after updating to ML, wouldn't let Messages, Quartz, or Photo Booth startup or wouldn't show effects. What worked was going into the system>lib>Graphics folder and removing what I think was Kineme file called Backdrops.plugin. Restart and everything is working again. You might also have this in another Library if it's not in the system.
