mbp early 2011 loose ram - quick fix

in case your macbook pro - early 2011 (works maybe also for other unibody macbooks) - freezes and restarts with three beeps (faulty ram indication) after moving it around you may consider that the lower ram module has come loose. it happened to me a few times and i did not want to send it in for repair (takes too long until you get it back).

the solution for me was to put two small pieces of heat resistant plastic between the outer part of the ram module holder and the mainboard on each side of the ram modules (i marked the two spots with red circles in the picture attached to this post).

everything works fine since then!

please note that when you put in the lower ram module everything may seem fine. it happened to me that while putting the upper ram module in place the lower one came loose again. take care to double check if both ram modules are seated as they should!
