Are you on a business account with Comcast? Or are you part of their beta IMAP program? If you're not either, then to the best of my knowledge IMAP is not yet available to you, regardless of what the rep may have told you.

If you are on one of those programs, are you able to successfully set up to Comcast as an IMAP account on your computer?

Regards.

I agree with varjak paw that unless you signed up for the Beta program, IMAP is not a choice with Comcast. I have Comcast email and it is configured as POP.

If you are having no luck - and want a very good alternative - download the Xfinity Connect email app from Comcast. While I do have Comcast mail configured in the mail app, I prefer the Connect app and want it has to offer over the mail app. Take a look at it anyway in the App Store.

Thanks for the confirmation. This was posted in a thread in Comcast's forums and may help you:

iOS 6 is just a bit tricky to setup for the Comcast IMAP Beta. It seems that iOS thinks it is smart enough to determine whether to use IMAP or POP for a new account setup. It appears to be unaware of the Comcast Beta and thus only offers a POP choice which will reject the IMAP server settings.

The way to bypass the iOS 'intelligence' feature is to put in bogus server information during setup to force iOS to ask you whether to use IMAP or POP. I simply changed the server name in the requested Email field from "comcast.net" to "Somewhere.net". When I saved the setup the next screen asked me to specify IMAP or POP, which I did, and then it allowed me to change the server name to "comcast.net". iOS went on to create the account and it uses port 995 rather than 143 but sending and receiving on both the MacBook and iPhone/iPad seem to work OK.

Regards.

Sorry if this is a repeat, but I am trying to confirm: - if I go throught the conversion process to Comcast imap beta, then I can coordinate email on MacBookPro, iMac desktop, iPad, and iPhone? No more deleting messages four times, as I do daily, and have for months? Really? Has this been documented? Any special requirments for setting up? Or email clients needed?

Sounds to good to be true. Right up there with Santa and the EB . . . .

Please say it's true. I want to believe.

Almost all email clients support IMAP. I currently use Comcast with the IMAP beta in Mail.app (10.8) and on my Android phone. I can delete something in one place, and it's deleted everywhere. If it gets flagged as spam via the web client or Mail.app, it's gone elsewhere.

IMAP has been around for a long time and this is the way it works. Comcast is finally getting around to supporting it since MS dropped support for POP.

OK so who can tell me why my Comcast email won't verify under the new ios7? I thought it transferred fine as I had touched nothing with the account when I did the upgrade. But now it won't find my account and cannot connect to the server. Are the IMAP settings different? Are the port codes different? I tried deleting and re-adding my account and it wont take. Are there different steps now to take to add a Comcast email account? Can anyone help please?

Let me clarify that I can get Comcast email on. But with it set with IMAP and the port settings changes I made via Xfinity's beta program, I was able to get all my folders on there too. But with the iOS7 update I lost that so all I have is an inbox. I'm wondering what needs to be done to retrieve the IMAP settings again so it will come through?
