Deleting from device

In the interest of clearing out some space I wanted to delete some podcasts from my device. I have quite a few subscriptions set to auto-download while on wifi so I can decrease my cellular data usage. However, the only way on the device I've found to delete episodes is swiping on them, then delete. The problem is, this deletes the episode listing altogether, when all I want is just to remove the audio from my device. Sometimes I want to go back and listen to an episode I've deleted. I know how to do it through iTunes, but I'd prefer to do my podcast management mostly from the device. Anyone know a way to keep this from happening?
