I have an iPod Classic 5th generation and it will not get past the apple screen.

I am pretty sure that I need to restore my iPod to factoy settings, although I can't even get my ipod past the apple screen. When I hook it up to the computer the ipod doesn't show up in itunes or even "my computer". I'm not sure how to get it past this screen: I have tried the reset restore, etc steps and they didn't work, and I have tried other tips and none worked either. Thank you for your time and help!
