Q: Help?

Someone mind explaining to me please why the itunes version I downloaded (the latest one) doesn't work? It won't open the itunes store, it won't let me authorise my account. It just sits there pretending to load the itunes store or my account but doesn't actually do anything. I don't understand why itunes needed to make a new version when the old one was fine. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
