iTunes wont open!!

My computer was acting strange so I downloaded an AntiSpyware from McAfee and ever since I ran the program my iTunes wont open. I guess I deleted or "cleaned" all of the files and programs that were potentiall harmful. Did I maybe delete something that I needed in order to open my iTunes? Someone please help. I never backed up any of my music and I don't want to lose it all!!

hi Nmcwahine!

a few questions before proceeding.

are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.

or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?

if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?

or are you seeing a brief "flash" of the itunes license screen (and then nothing)? if so, do you also see similar behavior when you try to launch your QuickTime?

Hello,

I'm having the same problem. Tried the above steps; still doesn't work -- by which I mean I get no error message but the hourglass pops up, a process runs for a few nanoseconds, then the arrow returns and iTunes has not loaded. Only way I can get iTunes to run is to continually uninstall and re-install to refill my iPod. I do not have any anti-virus software installed. Using an Acer Travelmate 4402. Thanks!

I have the same problem and no apple program will work on my computer and an error message pops up, here is what it says

AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 6.0.4.2 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 10001040

I have uninstalled and reinstalled about 100 times. It will not work at all. I have restored also and that hasn't helped. This started after we did a system restore and don't know if that is the reason

hi George!

AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 6.0.4.2 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 10001040

are you getting that in conjunction with an "itunes has encountered an error" message? one of those, citing that 10001040 offset, is almost always due to a broken QuickTime.

let's try another standalone QT reinstall, taking a few additional explicit precautions.

download and save a copy of the QT 7.0.4 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

Quicktime 7.0.4 Standalone Installer

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?

(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

Dont blame it on NIS!!
I have been experiencing (or became aware of this ) the same issue since 5/3. I spent a day on and off the phone with apple, itunes and today I finally contacted HP. Of course HP's advice was the same as all other computer sites (Dell, HP etc)....restore or reinstall OS!!!!!!!!!!!! User uploaded file
Apple blames it on Itunes, Itunes blames it on Apple, HP says to reformat my pc to "right out of the box" and I am totally numb at this point! User uploaded file
I know this has something to do with ITUNES latest version as that is when all my problems started. Doesnt do any good to remove and reinstall........
I have done the following:
removed and reinstalled both itunes and quick time standalone
verified that itunes was in my safe sites
turned off my windows firewall.....
restored my computer to April 8th......
I have lost 4 workdays trying to resolve this issue. I am at the point that Music match is looking really good!
I know this is frustrating......I am into my 3rd drink!, but hang in there until about a million of us complain User uploaded file
Apple TS, I told them to go out to the itunes discussion board and get prepared!! User uploaded file
Doestn appear that enough of us are complaining....or we all have better things to do User uploaded file

I've had this problem too. It's worked for me a couple of times, but everytime I restart my computer (or sometimes when I close iTunes and try to start it again) it doesn't load. I've tried everything that you guys and the website suggests, but it still doesn't work, and I'm getting a bit sick of it. Is there ANYTHING I can do?

iTunes wont open!!
