Do I need mcafee on my iPad ?
I would like to know if I need to install some sort of security program such as mcAfee or Norton on my iPad like I have on my computer?

You don't. as of now there is no known virus that affects teh iPad.

No. The "sandbox" nature of the IOS devices make them impervious to virii and similar malware.
