Text in both the Safari and Chrome browser seems blurry to me?

I recently purchased my first Apple iMac computer. One thing I am noticing is that the text is kind of blurry in both the Safari browser and also in the Chrome browser. It seems even more pronounced on text that is in bold. I am just wondering if there is a setting I need to fix or change so it's not like this? It kind of reminds me of when you try to type text in Photoshop and how it doesn't look crisp...any help/tips appreciated for this Apple newbie! Thank you! 🙂

Text is very crisp on my 21.5" 2011 model, and its even crisper on the 27" versions due to the increased resolution. Maybe the IPS pannel takes getting used to for you, or possibly you may need glasses 😉 Have you checked other imacs in a store out to see if they look the same. I have never seen an iMac with blurry text myself.

Have a look in System Preferences>General and make sure there is a tick against 'Use LCD font smoothing when available'.

In the same preference panel also check what font size is indicated under 'Turn off text smoothing for sizes xxx and smaller'. Mine is set to '4'. I've got nice crisp text in both the browsers you mention.

OK I made sure the settings were as described above i nthe last post and it didn;t make a difference. I have attached an image of a screenshot so you could see what it looks like. Hopefully I am doing this OK and you can see it. Thank you!

Check the setting in Sys Prefs>Displays. Is it set to the highest resolution?

Hi there,

Here is another example of how the text looks, this times it's not even in a browser, it's in an application window...? Is this normal for an iMAC? I know I'm new to Apple products but is this just something you have to deal with?
