I've opened a standard template in Pages. When I try to add a blank 2nd page to the document, it adds a page with the template background from the 1st page! I can't change the background. I can't add a blank page. No choice to do so.
How can I add a blank page?
I'd love to be able to access other templates on-line if there are too? Suggestions welcome?

Hi, I opened a Word template in Pages. It is called 'Float Newsletter' in Word. Perhaps this is the issue. Not sure. The fact that I opened it from Word.
I'm basically trying to set up a nice template from which I can produce a weekly Newsletter for a community organisation. I thought Pages/Apple was supposed to be easy! lol I'm only new at it I guess. Over from PC where I used Publisher quite well.
If there are other templates I can chose from in PAges, that would eb good to know about too?

I don't know how Word templates work in Pages.
In Pages, I opened a Page Layout template:
File Menu > New From Template Chooser.
Under Newsletters, I chose Informal Newsletter.
To insert a blank page,
Insert Menu > Pages > Blank.
You can insert more blank pages.
To type someting on the new page, you must insert a text box,
Insert Menu > Text Box.
You can resize the text box by dragging. You can insert more text boxes.

Any Word document opened in Pages will appear in a Word Processing template type. Since Word doesn't have an equivalent to the Page Layout mode, there is no way for Pages to recognize that you might want to be in that alternate mode in Pages, if in fact you do.
If you have background objects repeating on a new following page, that would indicate that Pages detected the Section Master attribute on those objects. If you don't want them to repeat, turn off that attribute using the Format > Advanced menu, after first selecting Make Master Objects Selectable.
Pages is not simple. On the contrary, it is quite complex. Many of us find it more pleasing to use than Word, possibly because it does have fewer options and a cleaner user interface. To enjoy the charm of Pages you are going to have to invest some time in the Pages User Guide.

Jerry mentioned the charm of Pages. I use Pages because it lets me do what I want. I don't use Page Layout. The (almost) only template I use is Word Processing > Blank (and I even changed that to Times New Roman and saved as a template under My Templates).
My Pages Preferences are set up this way:
Under Pages > Preferences > General > For New Templates > Use Template: Times New Roman
Pages opens with my favourite blank document. For a new blank document (File > New) I get my favourite.
As Jerry said: "invest some time in the Pages User Guide". Download the Pages09 User Guide (in Pages, Help Menu > Pages User Guide.
...and create your own newsletter.
