Importing Rendered stills at 30fps

Hi.

I am an animation student and as part of the course we have to render out at 30fps to stills and we usually import into Premier.

Being a Mac user i would like to be able to use Final Cut Express to edit in.

Is it possible to import stills at 30fps using final cut express?

I am not quite sure what you mean.

If you have any stills/photos you simply import them and you will get a normal still that will play for the default time. This can then be altered to anything you want from one frame upwards. (Alternatively you can set the default time to anything).

This is better to do using the QuickTime Pro player. Use OPen>Image Sequence and set the frame rate to 29.97 and the codec to DV NTSC. I presume you made the images at the correct size and pixel aspect ratio either 720x480 squeezed or 720x540 unsqueezed, then set the frame size in QT to 720x480.

What i mean is:

We produce animation as 30fps.
We render the animation out as still images instead of film.
We import the still images as a batch into premier at 30fps and therfore they play just like movie file.

What i want to know is if i can import still images as a batch into Final cut.

Yes, you can. It works differently from Premiere. Set the still import duration to one frame. Import the folder. Drag the contents on the folder into a sequence that's set to the correct frame rate.

Once again it's better to do this in the QT Pro player as it produces a complete video clip in the correct format. Make sure the images you generate conform to the specifications for DV or HDV video.
