replacement against drops?

I purchased an iPod touch for my autistic son and before the case could come in, he dropped the iPod and it shattered. I know many people are going to say (why would you give him the iPod without the case!!!). But if you were here and in my situation you would understand. Anyways, my question now is, is there any way to replace or get it fixed? Thanks!
