You might try a forced shutdown to begin with, hold down the top and home buttons together until the device shuts down, then restart it.

what if you cant use the shutdown button to shutdown the ipod

If your Idevice froze and it won't allow you to use any buttons, the only thing you'd be able to do is let the battery die, then once you charge it, it'll be back to normal. c:

As pointed out by other responses i dont think this is hardware related. Did a hard reset, reboot, network reset nothing works some thing makes the screen non responsive thats all and nothing works expect the view of notification center and bottom pull up menu

I think this has got to do with IOS notifications or things, happens only when a call goes unanswered or during a message. i dont know which is causing that these are only my observations.

Unfortunate that apple is not regcognizing this problem or even acknowleding that this issue is present.

It is not just annoying its actually very inconvinent and sometimes during emergency it could be vital.

Posting in all threads to get some attention atleast.

I held down the escape and power button at the same time. That worked, it shut down and now is not frozen. Thanks

This may be caused by the voiceover function being turned on accidentally. Press the home button 3 times in rapid succession and see if it restores touch screens ability to recognize touch input. If it does, this was your problem.

I am also observing more freezes on my iphone 5S after 7.1 update

It comes back automatically after few tries of pressing all the buttons 🙂 here and there.

That happened to my phone. i was getting worried . I tried the force shutdown and it worked 😀

I am sooooo sick of my ipad freezing with ios7, soft reboots two or three times sometimes. Does anyone know if ios8 will fix ipad freezes?
