After updating to the new iTunes I lost songs, I lost playlists and I lost control over my music library
in the iPhone. I am annoyed and frustrated

To ease use of the new iTunes these tips will revert it back to the iTunes 10 look and feel
View > Show Sidebar
View > Show Status Bar
Click on Black arrow in the search box and untick Search Entire Library
Your playlists should show up in the Left Hand panel beneath Devices
If you find you are still missing playlists off your computer itunes then
