can iphone 4s use 3.0 usb port
i was able to update once using a 3.0 usb port, however, today it will not recognize my device. must i only use a 2.0 usb port?

USB 3.0 is backwards compatible. You should be able to use any USB 3 or 2 device in it, including the iPhone.
