i bought am iphone in spring2011, i am running 4.2.8 obn verizon, can i updare the ios?

iPhone 4, iOS 4.2, cannot upadte from 4.2.8

You can update to 6.0.1. Just plug it into your computer and update via iTunes. You should be prompted when new versions are available when you sync. When was the last time you bothered to sync / backup your phone?

every time i try to update, i get a message that says my device is not eligable for an update.
