Recording on new macbook pro

Hello all, Ive searched multiple sites, and have tried all the ways of figuring this out, but its led me here, with hopes you will be able to help. My wife bought me a macbook pro for my DJ gigs I do every week, and I have always wanted to record my mixes for people who are not able to hear them. I use a Numark mixdeck, and have an RCA to 1/8th cord that i was able to use on my old toshiba laptop to record (only in mono). I tried the same thing with the macbook, but found there was no external mic port to use, so i tried the headphone port, only to find it wont recognize its an input not output. I looked on sites to find a fix where I would be able to change the option of output/input in the sound preferences, however, that does not exsist on my model. So now is my dilemma. Does apple make some kind of cord (thunderbolt perhaps?) that will help see the external input? I was hoping not to buy an external soundcard that would use a USB port to record. Hope you guys can help!

User uploaded fileGo to system preferences>sound>input tab. Plug the 1/8" into the headphone jack and the RCA into the mixer. Where it says sound source select input. In the sound window line in should have a line in pop up. highlight that then all you need to do is adjust the level. This from my Mackie connected as I explained. Hope this helps

As you can see the MBP is seeing the mixer, so it is a mixer issue. Did you ty the other RCA connector? The 1/8" is a TRS (Tip=left, Ring is right, Sleeve is common/ground) If the cable has one connector at both ends, that means both left & right are going to the tip most likely, and could be cancelling things out. Let me know if there are 2 RCA's. Only one will work. Send me the model Numark model as it is peobably something simple, like using the correct output. This way I can do some research. But as you can see the Mac is recognizing the Numark. Also send me s screen shot f the output tab. Make sure the 1/8" connector is seated all the way. Just for the heck of it double click on the Nmark. Let me know

I just had an issue with mine and I figured out how to see my signal. It stopped working as an input. Yes just try the red and white cables. Disconnect everything. Power off the mac, power the mac back on and hold the following keys: option, command,P,R(no commas) Press these keys before you hear the start chime, continue to hold these keys till you hear the start chime 3 times, then release. Connect your stuff and see what you get. This resets the audio in the system. There are a couple variations of this depending on the gear. We'll start with the most basic, if it does not work, we go down the line.

Just use the red and white from the record ouput to the Mac, with jst your mic. Forget the yellow for now, yellow is a video cable. We need to do this one step at a time. Did you do the reset I asked, it is called a pram, and deals with video, audio, and a number of other media functions. Most of the time, these take a few steps to find the offending application, or configuration.
