Best case? Screen cover advised?

I'm new to iPad and not technical. Personal use (retired).

There's probably hundreds of cases. - some very rugged, some leather, some faux leather, some cloth, some with bluetooth keyboards, some cheap, some expensive, colors, some for iPad 1, 2, or, 3, or 4, iPad Mini, etc. You need to specify your desires. Do a Google search using "iPad (specify model) cases".

For my iPad 2, I bought an Adesso case/keyboard model WKB-2000CD http://www.adesso.com/en/component/content/article/49-coming-soon/455-wkb-2000cd .html Works great & looks good. The keyboard is easier to use than Apple's on-screen keyboard. Do a Google search using the model number to get the best price. About the same price as Apple's covers & it covers the whole iPad. Although the new iPad is slightly thicker, it should fit this case.

 Cheers, Tom 😉

Guess it's iPad 4? Does the OS (bottom of post) indicate that? Version 6.0.1

I'm wondering which features are important, so I don't have regrets. For example, an online article recommends a handle. I am not familiar with the iPad (or others) at all. I went to a store and was overwhelmed, so thot it best to get more info before making a purchase.

At the store, screen protectors were on display with the cases - are these a good idea?

Thanks you!

I recommend if small kids are going to use it. You never know what they might drag across the screen.

Check the A# at the bottom back of the iPad. Then look at this link for model.

Thank you for the links and guidance, Tom.

Model is A1458, so 4 was correct.

I watched the video, but have a hearing loss, so want to view it again. I got the overall pitch, but not all specifics.

Questions:

He prefers magnetic closures, but I read that they can do damage - your take?

One comment mentions the importance of rubber corner protectors – do you agree?

I do think I want a keyboard – I find the onscreen keyboard difficult to use. Also, I guess I need one with two openings for the front and back cameras.

No young kids around (grandchildren are on the other side of the country), so if that’s the only reason, I don’t need a screen protector.

The Apple Smart Cover has magnets. Magnets cause no problems on iPad operation. The cover I bought has magnets to turn the iPad Off when closed.

Provides added protection in case you drop the iPad

Hello - i am new to the ipad and recently retired also. Love my ipad. I originally got a cheaper cover. I then got an Apple Smart Cover and like it better. I like that it wakes it up when you raise the lid vs having to slide to unlock. Didnt know the magnet could damage the Ipad! The edge of the Smart Cover has a vinyl edge that surrounds the Ipad and the inside cover is a soft suede kinda fabric.

Yeah, i noticed that after I had posted, good news. I use my ipad for a computer since my laptop died. Plus i read a lot of ibooks. I also have Numbers on it and keep a simple budget/bills paid spreadsheet on it. I like the Apple product so well i am thinking of buying a Macbook Air for the few times i feel I need a computer. I also am loving my retirement.
