6.0.2 update failure-iPhone 5

When I downloaded and tried to install the 6.0.2 update on my iPhone 5, it went through the process and then finished with the "connect to iTunes" picture. I do not want to factory reset my phone and do not know what to do from here. How can this be fixed? I have not had an iPhone before and did not think to backup my phone before doing the update. I'm in another country and cannot afford to lose my data that was on my phone. I had installed the update to fix wifi issues. Any help is appreciated, thank you!
