Jan 17, 2013 7:39 PM in response to LarryHNby jenhebert,My new camera is the Nikon D800. Im a photographer and I shoot in RAW and use iphoto to organize my photos. The last few months Ive had to use my macbook pro (iphoto '11) to upload my pics, save them on an external hard drive and transfer them to my imac to edit. I prefer to edit on my 27 inch imac because of the huge screen. It's such a pain!!!! I've tried several times to update with the RAWcameraUpdate3 and I get an alert that says "this update provides support for Aperture and iphoto 9 only". I HAVE iphoto '09!!!!

Jan 17, 2013 8:23 PM in response to jenhebertby LarryHN,RAW support for the Nikon D800 requires OS X Lion and iPhoto '11 version 9.4 or newer
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
So you need to upgrade both your OS and iPhoto for RAW support on your camera

iPhoto v9 is iPhoto 11. You have iPhoto 8.
Marketing names and version numbers are confusing.
The marketing name iPhoto 6 corresponded to the version 6
The marketing name iPhoto 08 corresponded to the version 7
The marketing name iPhoto 09 corresponded to the version 8
The marketing name iPhoto 11 corresponded to the version 9
So, v9.4.2 is the current version of iPhoto 11.
Not that this is confusing or anything.

Jan 18, 2013 8:09 AM in response to Terence Devlinby jenhebert,No kidding, very confusing:)
Why does it say i photo '09 when I click on the "about iphoto". Not to mention I purchased the computer in October 2010.

Jan 18, 2013 8:12 AM in response to jenhebertby LarryHN,Because you have iPhoto '09 - version 8.x.x
For your camera you need iPhoto '11 version 9.4 or newer
RAW support for the Nikon D800 requires OS X Lion and iPhoto '11 version 9.4 or newer
See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4757
So you need to upgrade both your OS and iPhoto for RAW support on your camera

Jan 18, 2013 8:18 AM in response to LarryHNby jenhebert,What are the risks when upgrading the OS system. Im scared to death of losing any files.
And yes I've backed up with time machine.

Jan 18, 2013 8:39 AM in response to jenhebertby LarryHN,Any upgrade can go wrong - as can any trip to the store - with computers you protect against proglems by having a good up to date backup (I do two daily - TM plus a bootable clone)
The risks are low but there always is a risk so you protect against it with good backup(s)
