I have ituned sharing on with select all. I can airplay video from my iphone 5 via my apple tv2 to my tv. But I try to stream video from my imac via "video' on my iphone 5, I get "you do not have permission to access the requested resources." Do I need to set something up?

Just use home-sharing to access your iMac's iTunes library via the computers section.
I have home sharing and can share my videos directly from my apple tv but when I try to share them using my iphone 5, I can see the listing and when I chose a video, I now get audio only with the title in graphics streaming across the screen.

There is no need to airplay your iMac's library from your phone. You access your iMac's library directly via the computer's section on the Apple TV.
Thank you. I do understand that and I usually do that but notice in the 'video' app on my iphone and ipad that I had a 'shared option' which provides the listing of video but only plays audio on my tv.

That is more for sharing things from your computer to your IOS device and what you are experiencing is normal
