Just import them from the camera card or the camera itself if you plug it in. Or, have the camera icon on your desktop and import them from there.
The .mov file is on my desktop. When I try to drag and drop or file open, nothing happens in any of these applications.
This is just a hunch - are they AVCHD? What type of camera/camcorder are they from?

There are many more hits if you do a search in the forums on those.
If they are not, then post back with camera info including what it says in the specs about the file forumat it shoots video in.
I have no idea. Some wedding guest shot it at our wedding years ago. Now I'm trying to import it and nothing seems to work. Info doesn't show anything other than it's an .mov file. The file came off of a DVD-R disc.
Then try to run it through a converter such as MPEG Streamclip. Or, since it is coming off a DVD from a professional service, there could be copyright issues involved - in which case, you won't be able to do anytjhing with it.
I will try the converter next, then the local professional service. There are no copyright issues at all. I'll post what happens.
Maybe not copyright issues, but you also don't know how and what format was used to get it on the DVD.
OS X won't let me open MPEG Streamclip, and Miro Video Converter doesn't recognize the file at all. I'm off to the local professional service tomorrow.

I have never heard of that - did you download the Mac version?
Oh, that is a minor (but possibly annoying) problem - that'll happen with anything you download outside of the app store. New feature in Mountain Lion.
Check your settings in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General Settings. If anything but "anywhere" is checked, you get that dialog. You can bypass it either by changing the settings or control clicking on the downloaded installer - it'll then open.
Post back with whatever results - it'd be interesting to find out exactly what format/process was used for that.
I would try "Handbreak" a free program that will covert just about anything in to a file that iTunes can use.
Personally I don't care for it because you have no options as to the quality or anything else when you convert it. MPEG Streamclip however offers you a multitude of options.
