17 in Macbook Pro Speaker upgrade

Okay. I'm a proud owner of the last rev of the 15 in Powerbook and I love it. I also realize that I need to upgrade to the intel chip in the future (the distant future). I happen to love me some music and while reading the specs on the new 17 inch I came across a surprising tidbit of audio info. Is it true that the new 17 inch has more speakers than the g4 version. If so please advise of how many additional speakers and how much more powerful are the speakers. this may determine if I wait for the 2nd rev of this product or not.

Someone else this week mentioned this same thing, but I'm not sure where the information comes from. The description for the 17" seems the same to me as the 15".....

Audio
Combined optical digital input/audio line in (minijack)
Combined optical digital output/headphone out (minijack)
Built-in stereo speakers
Internal omnidirectional microphone (located under left speaker grille)

This is from the Apple pdf (page 24) about the MBP 17 that is downloadable from here

http://images.apple.com/macbookpro/pdf/2006042417MacBookProTO.pdf

"With twice the number of speakers, larger
speaker enclosures, and increased total power,
MacBook Pro delivers double the sound and
plays more low frequencies than the 17-inch
PowerBook G4."

The other specs just refer to inputs and outputs.

Hi Peter,

I must confess that I will of course gage the reviews based on the owners as well as cnet and Mac World. I also need to inform you that I have a powerbook g4 that I adore and dread purchasing a 1st rev model i.e the Macbook Pro, however I need to step up my game to the next level and make it happen. I will wait until the product has been perfected and perhaps the price will be reduced a tad then I will pounce. Peter have you made the upgrade to the Macbook as of yet or are you also waiting to see the reviews??

Peter I have the 15 inch and I need a 17 inch model, I also have a imac 20 inch which I have placed in my daughters room (they love it).

Hi lordorrin,

As you can see by my signature, I do have a MBP. It has been perfect from the start. No issues. None. It replaced a last generation PB with numerous problems. When I think back on all the PB's I owned, they all had issues. This MBP has actually been the best I've ever owned. So revisions don't mean a lot to me. I also think Apple has been able to see the issues with the 15" and hopefully correct. Since it will have a different logic board, I think it will have different behaviors than the 15".

Peter & Jeff,

I'm a proponent of the MBP, however I am convinced that version upgrades only enhances the end product. i agree that the new machine is the best that Apple can offer and that my machine is of a dying breed, yet again I say that perhaps in a year or so I will purchase the MBP - by then the bugs will be corrected and perhaps even a few additions re: the hardware maybe available. Look gentlemen I own 3 Apple computers and love each for different reasons, when it's time to upgrade to the newer model I assure you that I will take the plunge, till then I will continue to use my PB (I have 2 yrs remaining on my apple care) - hmm wonder if I could use that as a selling point.
