I have had my Macbook Pro for 3 years now and it has started to have problems with the flash player recently.
Every time I try to watch a video on Youtube or Facebook etc it comes up with an error message saying that flash player quit unexpectedly. Then the video that I have been trying to watch goes blank and a little box says "missing plug in". I tried to install the latest version of flash player to see if it would fix the problem but once it got to 72% it stopped and said that the installation had failed. Now videos come up with a box that says I don't have Flash player and that I need it to watch the video. But it won't let me install it?
How can I fix this? I need to be able to watch videos on my laptop as a part of my job.

    Update to the latest version of Flash.

    If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.

    Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

    ☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

    Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.

    If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.

    When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

    Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

    Which os version are you using?




    Prior to installing Flash Player you must first uninstall the previous version by using the Flash Player Uninstaller.  Afterwards you must repair permissions and restart your computer.  Install the updated version, repair permissions and restart your computer.  Any of this done?

    My Flash Player quit working awhile ago and uninstalling then reinstalling it worked for awhile. I posted here and was given the following advice from user Carolyn Samit:


    Try resetting Safari...


    From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Reset Safari


    Select:  Clear History


    Deselect the remaining boxes then click Reset.


    That also empties the Safari cache.


    Now open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab. Click: Delete All


    Quit and relaunch Safari and try a video.

    I haven't had any problems since then.
