Why do Notes disappear from my phone?

Recently notes in the iPhone Notes app disappear. I still have 63 notes in the list, but when I edit one, it will disappear after awhile. I can find these notes, with the editing, in my email app in the Notes folder.

I've had all the same problems. iPhone 4S, iOS 6, Notes sync'd to Yahoo account.

Another tip to finding your lost Notes on yahoo is to go into settings and disable Notes syncing for the yahoo account. After that I was able to see all my notes in a yahoo email folder (both online and in the iphone email app).

After reading this thread, looks like I'll be transferring my notes syncing over to gmail.

I had this happen today for the first time. I opened my notes to add something to a list, and all but one of my "lists" dissappeared. I don't have a yahoo acct and my notes are attached to my gmail account. I also discovered that my icloud account isn't active and is actually set up to my son's account, not mine. so I have a few questions.

1. is there a maximum number of notes that can be kept active? is that why they dissappeared? I can recreate them through my gmail

2. how do I change my icloud to my account and should I activate it to store/backup my notes, email, etc?

3. I sync/backup my phone daily to my laptop. can I restore my notes from "yesterdays" backup? How do I restore?

Thanks

I don't think there is a limit to the notes. My solution was to connect notes to a gmail account and all my notes were then synched with gmail and remained on my phone. (When you have more than one account connected to email you can choose which one to synch with notes.) Last month I pointed back at Yahoo and a couple weeks later notes started to disappear again. So back to gmail.

Obviously the problem continues. In your case yahoo is ok and gmail is not. Bizarro world. You should be able to find the missing notes in the notes folder on the synched email account.

I suggest you post question three as a new thread.

Good luck lkingtx.

The "Default Account" setting only shows up if you have multiple accounts for Notes (e.g. iCloud and Yahoo). This lets you choose which account to save a new note to by default if you have the Notes app displaying all notes from all accounts.

So either you only have Notes synced to just one account (e.g. Yahoo) or you're not syncing notes to ANY account (i.e. they only exist on the iPhone).

I am having the same problem. My notes luckily are still on my ipad, bc they transfered to that, anytime I was writing a note on my phone. But notes that I wrote on my iphone and NEVER opened on my ipad, are gone. Apparently notes syncing is set up to gmail, but those notes aren't even in gmail anymore. I don't understand why this is happening. It is not set up on my icloud either, so it shouldn't be sending ANYWHERE. IT should be on my phone! I have ios 6, the most recent update. I'm really frustrated with my iphone lately as it has been doing so many things to make me mad and this is just another thing to add to the list. I don't want to lose things! I use notes a lot. It is important to me. Why could it be doing this and can I fix it?

I agree. This should not be happening. Everyone keeps saying you have to do all this stuff to sync your notes but when I type a note on my Iphone it SHOULD STAY THERE until I delete it!!! The other day I typed a note and within five minutes it was gone yet one note still remained. To me this is an issue that needs to be fixed. Please fix this Apple.

It was synced to gmail, but the ones that disappeared from my phone were not on gmail either. And now they are gone from my ipad too. I tried to turn of syncing to my gmail and lost ALL of my notes, except that some are still in my gmail, just none of them are on my iphone or ipad anymore. This is the stupidest thing I have ever seen and now I am afraid to use my notes b/c I think that it will just disappear one day when I need it. Seriously ridiculous.

Same problem here. What I did:

I went to my Yahoo email on my PC, created a folder named "MYNOTES", then went to the NOTES folder, selected all the notes and moved them to MYNOTES.

Then from my iphone switched NOTES OFF for Yahoo and ON for Gmail (bye bye Yahoo Notes).

Of course at this point you won't have any notes on your iphone but all previous notes can be easily accessed by checking the MYNOTES folder in Yahoo mail.

So from now on all the new notes will be synced to Gmail instead of Yahoo and all the old notes available.

Ok, I use notes to record things I might forget. So it took me a while to realize they were disappearing. My wife said hers were disappearing, but I chalked that up to user error until I realized mine were going too. The timing seems random. Some notes stayed a while, others seemed to go quickly. Only today when I realized I only had one note from the last 8 months was I certain something was wrong.

I found this thread and as I read it took some actions that seems to have corrected my problem to some extent.

I went to yahoo in a browser and saw all my notes there in a folder. Which made me feel better.

I went to settings-mail,contacts,calendars selected my yahoo account at the top under accounts.

And turned off notes. Hoping to stop more from being removed.

Reading more, I quickly turned it back on so I would have them all disappear.

Strangely, many (but not all) of my missing notes returned on my phone. I then switched the default under settings-notes to "on my phone" so that all new notes would not be yahoo notes. I think turning it off and back on forces yahoo to resync.

I think this will stop the bleeding. The number of yahoo notes should not change. I need to look into using iCloud to back them up. And I need to identify the still missing notes and transfer them back.

Hope thus helps.
