Problem with my Macbook Pro 13" 2011 usb port.

I cant get my usb port (closest to the shift key) to recognise anything. I had my external hard drive connected to the port and was transfering files at the time when my usb harddrive fell and became disconnected. I got the error on my screen that i was suppose to unmount the drive. My external hard drive still works fine and no corrupt files (Thank God) but my usb port doenst work at all. It powers up my external usb drive but does not show up on the desktop or in disk utility. I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC to no avail. I also did the hardware test on startup (Shift + D) with no issues what so ever on the extended test. Macbook Pro 8,1

Please help.

Do you have another USB device you can try in the port just to see if it works at all?

I tired every usb device i own. Nothing works. The other usb port works fine though.

If your MacBook is still under warranty, I suggest a trip to an Apple store/Genius Bar if that is possible.

You can try the Apple Hardware test, but it doesn't always pick up every problem:

Just brought it in to the Genius Bar and the guy confirmed that the USB port is dead. Need to replace the logic board. I'm so lucky cause my 1 year warranty was almost up. It's getting replaced for free. Thanks for the replies.

You are welcome - glad to help.

Since your are still under warranty, I think you may be able to purchase Applecare to give you another couple of years warranty if you want extra protection.
