New iPod Touch without Retail Packaging or Was it a Refurb?

Greetings Apple Community,

I just recently bought an iPod Touch 4th Generation from a seller on Amazon.com called "iPod Superstore" for 300 bucks. The item was listed as "New" and I do not remember seeing any further item details on this item when I was going through the purchase process (other than "New" iPod Touch).

When I received the iPod in the mail today it came in an anti-static wrapping with bubble wrap around it and NO Apple Retail Packaging. However, after inspection the iPod appeared to be new, not a single scratch on the front or back of it, but it had a completely drained battery and was displaying the "Conect to Computer with iTunes" warning on the screen (every new Apple item that I've bought from Apple or new in retail packaging always comes nearly fully charged, that is why I am stating this). When I entered in the serial number on the Apple Suport website it stated that the support and warranties were expired. Would this indicate that the iPod I bought from this Amazon merchant was refurbished even though it appeared and looked like the iPod was brand new?

My gut is telling me that I got duped and the seller bought this as a used iPod and refurbished it with a new outter front and back making it appear new. When I contacted the seller (owner of the company) she stated that all the iPods she sells are brand new and that they buy the overstock/unsold items directly from Apple without the retail packaging and "new" so that is why they look like they do and don't come in the Apple retail clamshell boxing with manuals etc. Could this be true and is this how Apple sells off its older unsold stock? I wouldn't think they would do this for quality control purposes etc., but I guess I could be wrong. I sent the item back and am getting a refund from "iPod Superstore" and will be buying another iPod from a different seller but in unopened retail packaging this time.

Anyone from an Apple Store or who works for Apple know if all of this is true and if I should have trusted this seller?

Many Thanks for your time.

Nate

The iPod that you bought was New and came directly from the Apple store -Known as a product replacement. I know this because I too am a vendor online and sell the similar items that your vendor sold you. Apple parts are not available and even Apple does not replace parts on iPods, they have always just given their customers a brand new replacement. Hope that helps!

No sorry. I am the iPod SuperStore and the green sticker we put on the iPod was to allow our buyers to know that we are responsible for the iPod and we would work with Apple on our buyers behalf if it it was defective for any reason. Apple gives us 90 days on anything we get directly from them, and we like to provide our buyers with an ease of working with us , knowing we are dependable. The iPod was new at the time of this persons purchase .

Thank you,

Robin

4 years late to the party, it seems.

4 years too late with an explanation, it seems, also.

Not much you can do to help the OP, now, OR did you help this OP at the time?

I wouldn't buy an Apple product from you, EVER!!!

Especially given the fact that the "new" Apple products you are selling are no longer covered under the free one year of AppleCare with no way for the buyer to get any additional AppleCare warranties.

I'm going to check your ratings on Amazon, just for my future knowledge and reference about your online store and relationship with Amazon.

Your response here is too little waaaay toooo late!

The truth is , I never saw this post until yesterday. And because we have so much success on Amazon, ebay, Sears and Bonanza ( other ecommerce sites) we tend not to consume ourselves with the negative which is everyones right to post. If you dont know our sources and how we do business , you dont have any right to assume its refurbished. The buyer never came to us directly . Why would he/she just blast negative information instead of contacting us to resolve? If there was such a concern, why would one keep it? It apparently worked or I am sure we would have heard about that as well. It was New and it was in Factory Plastics, but either in a white box or possible not. We always have allowed for returns/exchanges and always help our buyers. Sounds like more of a bully then one who is concerned with knowing the truth. And if Apple handed the buyer the same exact product in the same exact packaging, you would not question it. The truth is-thats where they came from Direct from Apple! I respect your opinion to not need to buy from our company, but our reputaion on Amazon, ebay etc is pretty good. We learned that you cant please everyone, there is always going to be someone who no matter what you do , will never be happy. For those, we are sorry. We try our hardest, we are truthful and human. And when we go to bed, we know weve done the best job possible to help our buyers. But for the rest of our buyers who have put their trust in us for 8 years and running, Thank you for the Support and all the positive feedback. Its much appreciated!

As for the question about Apple Care. The product they bought was an older model and Apple stopped selling this model at the time of the purchase from our company.. At the time, it was covered with a 90 Day Warranty either through us or through Apple. The green sticker on the product was to help the buyer know where to go and that we were willing to make an exchange an easy process if an exchange was necessary. Lots of times Apple products dont work directly out of the box, in retail packaging or not. They make so many, sometimes they get bad parts and effects even the new stuff sold at the Apple Stores. Again, I am not asking you to become a buyer from my company. I am merely defending our companies reputation. And perhaps make even any additional buyer think twice about the person who posts discontent , but never reached out to the company directly. That person is a bully . They have no legs to stand on in our eyes. If a problem arose or they questioned something they bought from us, they should have contacted us but never did. There was no way to help them.

Thanks Varjak Paw for the quick response. I figured something wasn't right when I entered in the serial number on the Apple website and it came up as "expired". I know it doesn't take a genius to figure that out, but I'm afraid many more people will get scammed by this company (iPod Superstore) claiming to sell "new" iPods but without the retail packaging. The owner seemed slightly on edge when I talked to her on the phone when I claimed it was a refurb, stated all the facts that I mentioned in my previous post, and she kept trying to convince me that they only sell "new" iPods. When someone is overly persistent with me with their (false) claims, that usually throws off some red flags to me.

I would appreciate hearing from one or two more expert Apple users so I can rest easy with my decision on returning the iPod.

Thanks again Varjak paw for your expertise.

Thanks again Varjak Paw. I figured as much that they were BS'ing me. Also the screen sticker (the screen sticker protector that comes with the iPod when you buy a new one) did NOT have the picture of the pseudo Home screen on it, so that was an indicator that iPod SuperStore probably replaced the front screen glass and popped on a new refurbished one as well as replacing some other parts and is trying to hock them as "new". First time in a while that I got hosed. 😐
