I recently synced my iPhone 4 and all of my contacts have disappeared. Help?

I tried to update my iPhone 4 and all of my saved contacts are no longer showing up. If I need to type a text message however, the contacts name will show up...where did they go?

iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1

They should be on your computer in whatever program you have chosen to sync
