My new 27-inch late 2012 with hybrid drive iMac has been giving me fits all of a sudden when I try to power it up. I have to hold the power button of for 30-40 seconds before it starts. Anyone else?

You have 90 days of free telelphone support with AppleCare, why not call and ask. BTW...do you run any other operating systems on your iMac other than OS X?
I have Parallels 7 installed but I don't think that's the issue.
Probably not Parallels, do you have a bootable clone HD connected to the iMac? If not then the next thing to check is System Preferences - Startup Disk and make sure the internal HD is highlighted, if it's not then click it to highlight and the click restart in order to test it. Otherwise call AppleCare as I mentioned earlier.
No bootable drives. FWIW, the iMac doesn't even light up and start looking for bootable drives. Just dead. I'll bring it to the Apple store... Bummer. And thanks for you input.
Yup bummer but that's what warranties are for, btw if you haven't already I'd really recommend getting AppleCare!!!
Sorry, but I don't buy insurance for consumer electronic devices. Heck, by the time the insurance kicks in the devices are ready for the the trash bin. Seriously. My hybrid boot drive has problems being recognized as the boot drive. I'm pretty sure it's a software issue. Totally bummed.
Your choice but AppleCare will extend the warranty 3 years and can be found for as low as $120. The advantage of AppleCare is if you have 3 instances of repair Apple replaces the machine. I've seen this occur many times that people get brand new models when their 3 year old machine has problems. Personally I've never had to use it but I sure enjoy the peace of mind.
You don't need to buy extended AppleCare. You are still under the one year warranty. You should call support or if you are close to an Apple Store or Authorized Repair Center make an appointment. The 90 days phone support is for:
