i cant link my facebook messenger to skype on my iphone 4S or Ipad 4. i have a microsoft email/account...but after many tries, it still wont work

Forgive me if I am wrong, but what does Facebook messenger have with Microsoft? I realize that Microsoft purchased Skype, and Microsoft messenger can be merged with Skype. Did Microsoft also purchase Facebook, while I was not looking?

How do you merge it on the sight they just say you can but don't actually tell you how to physically do it so frustrating!!
