French Canadian currency formatting
Is there a way to use the French Canadian formatting for currency (i.e. 19 304,45 $ instead of $19,304.45) that will be recognized by Numbers '08?

Bon soir, Monsetta,
Number and currency formats in Numbers are inherited from the settings in the International pane of System Preferences.
Open system Preferences > International > formats to see a pane similar to this (top section only shown):
Click on the Region menu, then scroll down to French and to Canada in the sub menu.
That should give you a choice of formats in the System Prerences pane.
Bon chance,
Barry
Thanks, Barry, this solved my question. Having to modify the system prefs to accommodate a project language seems a bit awkward... Does version '09 work the same way?

Yes.
You can set custom formats in the Cell Inspector, but the decimal and thousands separators are set in System Prefs, and the 'custom format' choice for these is to use or omit them in displaying numbers.

Barry
