iPhone 4 cuts off names of the icons at the bottom of display

I recently replaced my broken iPhone 4 with a new one and restored from backup which seemed to work well but now the text from my icons at the bottom of display is cut off. Same thing occurs with apps that have menu items at the bottom. It is as if the screen area isn't big enough and it crops a few millimetres from whatever should be at the bottom. I have looked at other posts and tried a re-boot and turning off the zoom feature from settings but neither of these work. Any suggestions would be very welcome.
