Ram Upgrade for a MacBook Pro 17" late 2011.

I was thinking about maybe upgrading my Macs Ram. Atm i have 4gb. If i change it to 16gb, will the mac be able to use all of the memory, if not, i will upgrade it to 8gb.

Does Ram make a huge peformance difference?

Thanks.

That is dependent upon the applications that you anticipate using. If you are heavy into video for example, then you may benefit from 16 GB RAM. if you are not using 'heavy weight" applications, 8 GB may be sufficient.

16 GB RAM in my judgement is now cheap ($80+) that it will not hurt to spent the $40 additional. But remember, RAM not used is of no benefit.
