How do I reset the tempo for Loopback?

I am trying to get my head around Loopback for live looping in a way so that I set the concert tempo by the first loop length and sync the other Loopback instances to it. It works alright so far but the problem is that with the "set concert tempo after first take" option turned on im my master looper, i can only set the tempo once. To set it again i have to shut down Mainstage and restart it again. This can hardly be intended this way, can it? What if I want to do more than one song in my set that is based on live looping??

Hi

How have you got the Loopback(s) organised in the Concert?

Concert level, Set level or Patch level?

Right now i have them up on concert level for testing purposes. Do you think i can reset the tempo if i put them down to patch/concert level?

ok, I just tried it with several loopback setups on different patch levels. it works now to adjust the time with the initial recording on each patch. It makes it quite complicated though and it still isn't really what i am looking for. I wish i could reset the time everytime i press record on the master looper so i can do it all within one patch and as many times as i want.

i guess there's no way to setup loopback for that?

Hi

Tempo within MS is a little 'odd'. The tempo is always defined at Concert level. If you change the tempo somehow (using Tap Tempo, specifying a tempo for a particular Patch or Set, or by using LoopBack) you actually change the overall Concert Tempo globally.

You can specify a tempo for a Patch or Set to 'override' (or change) the current tempo, but in efffect, you are changing the Concert tempo, and it will stay at this new tempo until you change it again. It will NOT revert unless you specifically set things up to do so using Set/Patch level "Change tempo to" in the Set/Patch Attributes.

This can affect the way things work when using Loopback.

It is generally much easier to work with Loopback at Set (or Patch) level rather that at Concert level. You can set Loopback to automatically clear (reset) on a Patch change using the Action menu within Loopback), and you can set MS Concert tempo (see above) with the Patch/Set attributes if you need to.

Thanks for explaining CCTM.

I think I understand the concert/patch hierarchy and how the tempo works in it. The problem is that if i have Loopback on patch level and i have it set to set the tempo to the recording time, this only works only *once*. It works for the first initial loop recording on that patch. After that i am stuck with this tempo. So in case i'd like to use the Loopback on the same patch again for a different song in the same concert, it's not going to work again. Or if i accidentally hit the record button and the tempo gets screwed up i can't reset it.

Of course i could solve that by just adding some twenty or thirty of the same Loop patches to my concert, but i find that not very elegant. I wish Loopbak was set up like any other looper so that each recording on the master loop resets the tempo each time i hit the record button again.

So i guess i have to go for Moebius...

Yep, but you would only need 2 Patches, and then switch between them to reset everything?

Alternatively, all that would be needed is an assignable "reset everything" function in LoopBack

No, 2 patches aren't enough, because if i return to the first patch again the tempo is already set and the "set tempo to recording time" function won't work anymore. It really seems to work only once per patch.

This is not the behaviour I get here:

With a LoopBack on an Aux channel at *Patch level* (not Concert) in 2 patches with settings:

Sync OFF, Snap OFF, and When Patch is selected "Clear", and "Set Concert tempo after 1st take" ON

I record on Loop Patch 1, tempo is set etc. When I record on Patch 2, tempo is set again etc. in the second LoopBack.

When I switch back to Patch 1 (Loop 1) the Loop is completely cleared (because I have re-selected the Patch).

Whilst I am at it, I have both Patches set to "reset" the Concert tempo to some default value (in this case 120BPM)

ok, thanks! this sounds like a reasonable workaround.

I still hope they keep improving Loopback for an easier workflow.
