disabled IPOD

Please help,my son can not remember his pass word for his I Pod he tried so many times it put it in a disabled mode

I followed the steps on the computer to restore but it gives me an error message of "The ipod can not be restored unknown error

occured #3194

We have never synced it to the computer does anyone know how to get pastthis message
