Iphone5 voice quality intermittant

Audio quality of my voice using my Iph 5 changes on the receiving phone. The person I am talking to says I intermittantly sound "tinn-ey," and they can't hear me loud enough to understand what I am saying. This does not seem to happen when I am using the ear buds, speaker, and blue tooth in my car. Anyone else have this issue? Help!

How do you hold the phone?

There are at least two mics on the i5: one on the bottom grilles and one in the back between the camera lens and the LED flash. There may even be a third down below, one per grille, haven't looked at the disassembly pics.

If you cover up any of them, it interferes with the iOS noise cancelling feature and will probably lead to a "tinny" sound.
