how do i remove java

Open Safari preferences, click on the Security icon in the toolbar, uncheck the Java checkbox.

Most everybody agrees it's too hard and the best you can do is disable it. If you are actually still using OS X 10.5.2 (you really should go with at least 10.5.8) I'm reatively certain that the OS needs some of Java for proper operation.

But your best bet would be to upgrade your OS X to whatever your computer can handle.
