I have a disabled Ipod touch I can not restore.

I have a 8gb 4th Gen ipod touch. Someone had left it at my church and never came back for it so it is now im my possession. Just one problem, it is disabled permanently and says to connect to Itunes. Well, I put it in recovery mode and tried to restore it that way.. It loaded for 4 hours and then went back to the lock screen like nothing happened. So I updated the ipod and itunes to the latest versions and tried again. Still got nothing. So I tried to put it in dfu mode... and it all seemed like it was working and then when it said it was finished I turned it back on and went right to the lock screen like nothing had happened...

Did I miss somthing? Does anyone have something else I could try? This is driving me crazy. Thank you!!

iPod touch, iOS 6.0.2

Maybe:

Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)

Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .

Then try restoring on another computer.

Last, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.
