Converting an HD Quicktime to an H264 file

Hello,

I need to generate an H264 copy of a Quicktime file that is massive in size - it is an HD film taking 130GB of space.

The H264 copy needs to be 5GB in size or less.

The H264 copy is to be used for online streaming by a Video On Demand platform.

The machine I have is an Intel powered Mac Pro.

So far, the export feature via Quicktime has resulted in files that are too small.

Compressor: takes forever and then seems to send the file to the wrong - full - drive, resulting in the programming crashing.

Perhaps I need to work on the settings some more.

Any suggestions, please.

Many thanks,

Morning Coffee

The stock streaming settings in Compressor will shrink a Pro Res 422 file to about 3.5% of the source file. SInce your video is so large, I'm assuming it's some type of Pro Res.

Change the destination to a location where you have some free space.

Good luck.

Hello Russ,

Many thanks for your help.

Regarding changing the destination of the converted file in Compressor: I seem to have the same issue. I changed the destination by clicking the plus sign in the Destinations tab, and created a new destination. This was reflected in the "Path" box. Now the new H264 link appeared in the correct destination, but my main start-up hard drive seemed to be losing space as the conversion was taking place. No other program was running.

The conversion is still taking place, so can't say if the process has worked.

Any ideas, please.

Many thanks,

Morning Coffee.

Do you have more than one job in the batch? Because hitting that + button will give you something like this.

User uploaded file

If you're changing Destinations in a target that is already in the Batch window, control click on the distination and in the pop up menu choose Destination>Other. Then navigate to the location in your network that can accomadate the file.
