How to get iTunes 64 bit to install on Windows 8?

I have that problem too. The file just sits in the Download folder and when I double-click on it - it does nothing. I have tried all of the troubleshooting suggestions like deleting all of the downloads and restarting the computer, changing the security for pop-ups, saving to a different folder and Apple support wants a serial number from my computer to set up a call and then doesn't accept the one I give them. The frustration level is high!

No, they want a serial number from your Apple device. They do not care about the serial number of your Windows computer.
I have a similar problem. Have a iPod nano which I haven't been able to use for months because I can't get iTunes to work on my laptop...... sad, I know.
I have Windows 7, and the first time I downloaded iTunes it told me I needed to download the 64-bit version. So I did. But it still doesn't work 😟
Anyone know how to fix this? When I click on the icon, it just says "iTunes has stopped working".

No, no errors. I double click the installer, get the "okay if app changes system" pop-up, respond OK, but nothing happens after that.
See if this makes sense. This is a new Dell computer with Windows 8. Sometimes the version of Windows is the scaled down one and only allows for apps from Microsoft - not Apple and I will never be able to download itunes until I upgrade the Windows 8 version. If so, now what can I do with my ipod?

Were you able to find anything? I've tried changing compatability modes (Windows 7 & Vista) to no avail and when I try to remove the file, I get a pop-up saying it's open but don't see an installation pop-up.
Good news: I read on-line that Media Player needed to be installed in Windows 8 then iTunes would install.
I installed MP and volia, iTunes did install, imported music and plays w/o a hitch...thats the good news...
Bad news: It doesn't recognize my iTouch 4 (OS 6) which is the very reason I needed iTunes in the first place, to maintain and b/u my iTouch...ugh. If it's not one thing it's another.
Anybody have any idea's on what I might try next?
Well, iTunes finally recoginzed my iTouch (only after installing Media Player?) long enough to back up, but now it keeps reconnecting until I get a pop-up that iTunes doesn't recognize it.
Anyone now where I can find the driver for the iTouch 4?
