Maybe this has been discussed before, but I cannot find a clear answer. If I want to buy a mini iPad that I can use overseas, do I have to choose a particular US provider, or will any do?

IMO any will work, iPads come unlocked where ever you buy them, you can use any carrier, as I do with mine, some offer 4G/LTE and some don't, that's probably the biggest thing, if your not fussed about having LTE then choose any carrier you like..
I am not fussy about LTE, but I would like to use the mini on my current US network (verizon.) So, just to be clear, I can get an iPad Mini (white, 32G,Verizon) and it will work right out of the box with a SIM card from an European carrier?

My sis brought a iPad 4 and mini in USA and is using Aussie 4G sim and uk sim/s without any hassles..
What u want to do will work no probs..

Just our of curiosity, which American carrier (Verizon, ATT, Sprint) did she choose. I think, at least with the iPad, if you choose cellular, you have to specify a carrier.
