LaCie Rugged 1TB freezes in OS X and other issues

Question

Macbook Pro Retina (Mid 2012)Processor  2.3 GHz Intel Core i7Memory  16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3Graphics NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M 1024 MBOS X 10.8.2 (12C3006)I purchased a LaCie Rugged 1TB portable drive today that supports thunderbolt and USB 3.0.  I performed the initial formating of the drive in parallels virtualized Windows 7 with the entire drive being shared for both OS X and Windows usage.  In both operating systems, if I try to access the default software folders that are on the drive from the manufacturer, (LaCie Setup and Private-Public) the system hangs and requires a hard boot.  OS X timestamp just shows the time hung from the moment I clicked on a folder. I think I&#x27;ll have to return the drive and / or have the macbook looked at because something appears to be wrong.
