Panasonic PV-GS500

Question

Panasonic PV-GS500

I am about to click the "order" button for the Panasonic PV-GS500, (Standard Def, MiniDV, FireWire) and I just have to make positively sure that it will work with my copy of Final Cut Pro 4.5.

Would **greatly** appreciate a response.

It's not on the list of qualified devices. (NOTE: I couldn't find a list for FCP4.5, this is for FCP5.1) This doesn't necessarily mean it won't work, but you run a risk.

Might also search the Apple site for a list specific to FCP4.5.

When you state Standard Def, are you referring to the SD Memory Card slot the cameras specs with? Are you sure you know what that is?

I mean Standard Defintion. As in the resolution that is compliant with the DV codec. I am not talking about the memory card slot, which is a Secure Digital card.

Just making sure you're familiar with the technology. Sometimes hard to determine in a forum.

I've used equipment that was not listed on FCP Qualified Devices, and didn't have a problem. Could just be that techs haven't gotten around to qualifying that particular piece of equipment yet.

At the very least I'd make sure I had receipts and the availability of returning the camera if it ends up not working.

I have the Panasonic GS500, happy with the camera. But having some trouble using it with FCP 5.1, but that is probley because I am new to Mac's/FCP. I know my way round Windows - but I wanted to understand Mac.

Any way, I think it is just a matter of getting my Audio/Video settings correct. Speaking of which, if anybody has goten the GS500 working with FCP can you please post your A/V settings here so I may copy them.

I just got the panasonic pv-gs500, and am happy with its performance. I've just tried to d/l the video to my mac, and apparently it needs the dv/firewire cable, which does NOT come with the camera. They supply you with a usb cord, but that won't work with the mac (according to the manual). So I'm trying to fix that one right now.
